SONOMA RESIDENCE

As part of the current trend to working from home, this residential project relocates a client’s office from downtown San Francisco to an existing Sonoma residence. The office move led to a new 2-story ground-up building including 2,000 sf conditioned private office over a 3-bay garage sized for tractor storage to service the adjacent vineyards. This structure is one of three primary buildings defining the gravel entry courtyard fronting the main residence. The Owner desired an Italian Villa to occupy this site to complement the Italianate architecture of the main house.
The architecture includes a stone-clad stair tower with an entry stairway connecting the two floors and uses. The exterior facade incorporates a Sonoma stone base, stone arches, and an integral-color stucco finish above. Both the stucco walls and clay tile roof complement the finishes of the adjacent main house. The second level office has a high ceiling which express the slopes of the gable roof and celebrates the wood truss structure. The office windows are all operable incorporating true divided lites and stone lintels.
