PLEASANTON, CA

VEEVA

100,000 SQ. FT.

Veeva is a cloud computing company that works to find solutions for life sciences software technology, including cloud software. The company has grown quickly since starting in 2007; so fast, in fact, that it decided to expand into an existing building in Pleasanton. The headquarters is big, which will allow Veeva to keep growing, but a real concern was the scale of the place: a U-shaped footprint with large, seemingly vast floor areas.

After spending time closely listening to his client’s views about Veeva’s corporate culture and the company’s work, Brereton principal David Peebles says it quickly became clear that a sea of cubicles wouldn’t deliver a collaborative work environment where young, talented folks can spend a lot of face-time with each other over individual desks or in team spaces for quick, impromptu confabs. Creating neighborhoods was the key.

Brereton’s solution for Veeva was to design intimate, warm, comfortable spaces, close at hand for quick conversations. Office neighborhoods are kept manageable  so that co-workers can easily see each other to build social networks and visually connect with natural light and exterior views. But more than just views--there’s a great place to have lunch on the outdoor terrace next to the cafeteria.

Small splashes of  “Veeva orange” (the company’s brand color) perk up work and circulation areas without overkill. Contrasting surfaces of texture and smooth, colors bright and cool, lighting soft and vivid provide interiors that never get old. “Timeless,” as Peebles describes it, even for these fast-paced neighborhoods of creativity
